Crum Holds Strong at Hickory
Newton, NC: Team Crum Racing headed out to Hickory Motor Speedway to race in the second annual Dwight Huffman Memorial race this weekend. Crum qualified 25th out of 40 cars with a time of 15.507 seconds.
"We were not worried about qualifying 25th, we prepared the car to be ready for the race," said team owner Billy Crum. "We knew tonight was going to be a long race and we needed to look forward to the final laps."
It did not take long for Crum to start moving forward. During the first caution on lap five he was in 21st place and by lap 68 Crum broke into the top 10. After a several lap battle with the #7 car on lap 94 Crum was able to pass moving into 8th place.
By lap 173 he was holding strong in 2nd place but was unable to hold due to a minor collision with only four laps left to go leaving Crum with a 4th place finish. With nearly ten cautions and only counting green laps the race lasted nearly three hours.
"It was a very long tough race, we were hoping to be able to pull out with second place but this kind of thing happens and that's why we love racing," said Jake Crum.
Crum next race will be a PASS South Super Late Model Race with Teddy Mann on July 18th at the Newport Speedway.
