TULLAMARINE, AUSTRALIA – July 14, 2009: Honda Australia has announced that its annual Technician of the Year competition will run, for the first time, a parallel Apprentice of the Year competition in 2009.
The annual, national competition is open to all Honda service technicians and apprentices. Honda’s Technical Training Department devises three rounds of twenty questions using information from workshop manuals, training materials, diagnostic equipment and other technical information to test the knowledge and competency of its service technicians and apprentices.
The competition is divided into four regions. Those who obtain the highest score in each region along with the second highest national score over the three rounds will compete in the final, held at the National Training Centre in Melbourne. The final for the top five technicians and top five apprentices, consists of five exam modules – four practical skills and one theory exam covering the latest technology in Honda vehicles.
Incentive prizes are sent to those who achieve high scores after rounds one and two and regional participants who place 2nd, 3rd and 4th also receive a prize.
At the completion of testing, finalists attend a presentation dinner where the winners are announced. All finalists receive an award.
Honda Australia’s Managing Director and CEO, Mr. Yasuhide Mizuno, encourages all Honda technicians and apprentices to participate in the national competition. “We believe this competition is a great way for our technicians and apprentices to showcase their skills that are then recognised and rewarded by Honda Australia.”
