After de points, the podium.
12 July, 2009
Alvaro Parente, on the back of yesterday's points, reach the Nurburgring podium, today, after a good race in difficults conditions.
The Portuguese youngster started from third, which gave him good chances for the second GP2 race of the German Formula 1 Grand Prix, but with a wet track drying up it was expected difficulties for all drivers.
Alvaro Parente started well, putting himself in a position where he could lead the race after the first corner, but there he had to slow down to avoid a clash with his Silverstone beheader - Vitaly Petrov - and ended the first lap in the third position. The driver from Oporto began to attack Kamui Kobayashi, but, then, he couldn't avoid to be overtaken by Nico Hulkenberg, who was flying in a car well balanced for a wet track. However, his sights were in a podium position and he never gave up of that goal.
Vitaly Petrov was in his reach - after being served with a drive-though, courtesy of a clash (another) with Lucas di Grassi - and spun under the pressure of the Ocean Racing Technology driver. Later Alvaro Parente overtook Kamui Kobayashi with an authoritarian maneuver, reaching an exceptional second place. "We had our car balanced predominately for the dry, because we expected the track to dry up sooner than it did, and then we had to do a cautious race, avoiding the mistakes and preserving the tires, but with a good pace. ART and Addax had a different strategy and it was impossible to keep its drivers' pace. We had a good race and this is the result that all the team deserves", underlined the twenty-four years old driver supported by Soccerade, Delta, TMN, Aurora Group, Geotur and Cision.
After the yesterday's points, today's podium couldn't arrive in a better moment, which left Alvaro Parente really pleased , though he is already thinking in the next races. "This was a very positive weekend for us, we deserved this kind of results for a long time. Now, we have to keep pushing to maintain this results and to improve, because our goal is to win", said the Ocean Racing Technology driver.
The GP2 series will return in two weeks time, at Hungaroring, where is expected that Alvaro Parente keeps showing his talent and where he hopes to attain the results that are in his reach.
