A. Schulman Wins Society of Plastics Engineers Central Europe Award in Automotive Body Exterior Category
AKRON, Ohio, July 9 -- A. Schulman, Inc. announced today that it has received the 2009 Society of Plastics Engineers Central Europe Division's award in the automotive body exterior category for its innovative technology solution used in the Mercedes-Benz CLS radiator grill.
The award-winning product involves injection molding of silver pigmented nylon 66 compound SCHULAMID(R) 66 MT 5 HI which allows weld lines to be hidden by innovative stealth technology in the tool. This solution was developed in close cooperation with Daimler and Montaplast, a German-based maker of precision parts and systems for the automobile industry. A. Schulman's colored plastic material used in the grill manufacturing process provides excellent UV stability and eliminates the need for painting on a part that is subject to a high amount of impacts from stones and other debris on the road.
"We are honored by this award and its recognition of our team's hard work in developing an innovative and superior solution for our valued customer, Mercedes-Benz," said Bernard Rzepka, General Manager and Chief Operating Officer, Europe for A. Schulman. "This is a prime example of how we are leveraging our material and technology expertise to provide value-added products to a diverse and growing customer base. This is not our first SPE award and we continue to generate a stream of innovative compounds and solutions as a result of our collaborative partnerships with our customers."
