Media Release from Handy Racing Promotions, Inc.

PLACERVILLE , CA – This Saturday night will be the most lucrative night of the year at the ASA Sanctioned Placerville Speedway with a blistering $5000 being awarded to the winged sprint car feature event winner of the fourth annual Mark Forni Classic. But aside from the high bounty the point standings remain tight in all three divisions entering the 11th Red Hawk Casino-Hoosier Tires Championship event of the season.
The closest contest remains in Placerville Speedway’s Pure Stock division where a single digit separates Chico lady racer Heather Bartlett from former Placerville Speedway track champion and long time fan favorite Tom Tilford. Both drivers have raced door to door all season.
Bartlett has emerged from the recent tie for the point lead with her fourth consecutive victory while Tilford has three wins to his name. Bartlett now leads the point standings at both Placerville and Silver Dollar Speedway’s in Chico . Bartlett is the first female driver in track history to lead the division point standings at both facilities.Eddie Gardner of Sacramento is third in the ranks followed by Rick Grunert of Woodland and Danielle Clauson of Placerville .
In the Pro Stock-Limited Late Model Division, Heather’s father, Jerry Bartlett continues to lead the standings. After posting his sixth win of the year last Saturday night the veteran Yuba City driver holds a 12-point advantage over defending track champion Dan Brown Jr of Nevada City who is a two time winner this year. Brown is trailed in the standings by John Krehbiel of Placerville , Jay Norton of Shingle Springs and Forryst Carnett of Placerville .
As the winged sprint cars compete for the high payout Saturday night one driver will be looking to stay at the top of the point standings while another local driver looks to advance in the ranks. Colby Wiesz, the defending track champion, holds a narrow 7-point lead over Placerville ’s Scott Russell.
Neither Wiesz or Russell have found victory lane this season and Saturday night would be an ideal time to do so with the added bonus in honor of late El Dorado County Fairboard Member Mark Forni. Three different drivers have won this prestigious race including Kyle Hirst of Loomis, Greg DeCaires of Elk Grove and Sean Becker of Sacramento.Scott Kinney of Citrus Heights is third in the standings followed by Placerville ’s C.J. Humphreys, a four time winner here. Justin Johnson of Shingle Springs is fifth just ahead of Jimmy Trulli of Diamond Springs.
Prior to racing on Saturday, Three different race car displays will take place in Placerville . Carls' Jr. on Fairlane will host a large display of cars and drivers from all divisions from 10:30 a.m. until 1:30 . The second event will be RPM Photo Art at 259 Main Street in Placerville where several top sprint cars will be on display along with the racing art of local photographer-artist Phil Hamilton from noon until 4 p.m. Troy Machado will be on hand with his sprint car at Fresh Mex in the Kmart Shopping Center beginning at 11 a.m

Primary sponsors for the Mark Forni Classic include; Doug Veerkamp General Engineering, Hunt and Sons Petroleum, Les Schwab Tires, MRO Industrial, Pape Machinery, Armonds Tire Service, Sunrise Automotive Paint and Supplies and Sierra Landscape Service.
