Race car displays throughout Placerville will prelude Forni Classic

PLACERVILLE , CA – This Saturday night will be the richest night of the year at Placerville Speedway as Handy Racing Promotions and the local business community present the fourth annual Mark Forni Classic at the El Dorado County Fairgrounds. Prior to Saturday’s race, multiple areas of El Dorado County are turning into a race car city as several businesses will host a series of car shows and meet the driver’s events throughout the day. 
            Among the locations hosting car displays and driver appearances throughout the day will be Placerville Speedway’s victory lane sponsor Carl’s Jr. at 93 Fair Lane in Placerville next to the race track. Nearly a dozen or more of cars from all of Placerville Speedway’s divisions will be on hand from 10:30 a.m. until approximately 2 p.m. when the pit gate at Placerville Speedway opens up. 
            Drivers who are expected in this event include the sprint car teams of Bobby McMahan, Scott Russell, Jimmy Trulli and Billy Strange Jr. The highly competition stock car divisions will be represented. From the Pro Stock/Late Model division look for point leaders Jerry Bartlett and Dan Brown Jr. to be on hand with their cars along with veteran driver Dennis Armstrong, James Boss, Forryst Carnett and more. In the Pure Stock division, new point leader Heather Bartlett has announced she will be on hand along with fellow lady racer Danielle Clauson, Tom Grady, and more. Former champion and three time winner Tom Tilford has not yet comfirmed his attendance but may also be on hand with a few members of the Nor Cal Dwarf Car Association. 
            In downtown historic Placerville, RPM Photo Art and the Executive Barber Studio at 295 Main Street in Placerville will host it second sprint car art show and car display. Owner Phil Hamilton will have a wide variety of his sprint car art works on display for sale with proceeds benefiting the payout at Placerville Speedway. Parked on historic main street will be several sprint cars that will be in competition later in the evening. Beginning at 1 p.m. race fans can check out the great racing artwork while getting an up-close look at the sprint cars driven by Camron Mendes, Colby Wiesz and Scott Kinney. Local driver Justin Johnson is also a tentative entry for the Main Street appearance. 
            In West Placerville , Troy Machado and his #5 sprint car will be on hand at Fresh-Mex Express Mexican Grill at 3970 Missouri Flat Road in the Kmart shopping center. Fresh Mex is a dedicated sponsor to Machado’s team. The car will be parked in front of the eatery beginning at 11 a.m. and race fans can meet the driver throughout the early afternoon. 
            “Race cars are going to be somewhat of a landmark in this town on Saturday,�?? commented Bill Sullivan of Placerville Speedway. “First of all we want to thank all of the drivers for taking their time to help market our local sport in the community. Secondly we are very thankful to the businesses that are cooperating with us. This is a great networking tool.�?? 
            Local race fans are encouraged to come out and meet their favorite drivers as well as families and those that have never been to a race and perhaps have been to the grandstands but never to the pit area. Most of the drivers have autograph cards and welcome youngsters and adults alike to sit in the cars and get an up close look at El Dorado County ’s only professional spectator sport that brings thousands of dollars in revenue into the business communities of El Dorado County . 
            Saturday night will pay a blistering $5000 to the sprint car feature at Placerville Speedway. Racing will being at 6:30 with qualifying. The grandstands will open at 5 p.m.
