TOPEKA, July 6, 2009: The SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge Championships are back in one spot, as Round Four for both the GT and Touring Car classes take place at the daunting Mosport International Raceway. Both races are set to air on SPEED, Tuesday, July 7, at 2 p.m. (EDT).
First up is the second part of a World Challenge Touring Car Doubleheader. Though Eric Foss, in the No. 75 MAZDASPEED/Stoptech/Racinghart MAZDA6, qualified on the pole, a wrong call in the post-race coin toss resulted in the top five being inverted, sending Foss to fifth and defending Champion Peter Cunningham in the No. 1 Acura/RealTime/Red Line Oil Acura TSX to the top spot. Foss still gets a rocket of a start and is already challenging Cunningham for the lead by Turn Eight. Contact will send one of the cars spinning. Tune into SPEED to see if Foss can take his first-career win, or if Cunningham extends his series win record.
Next is World Challenge GT, with yet another inverted grid. Brandon Davis in the No. 10 Applied Computer Solutions/Sun Microsystems Ford Mustang Cobra was the fastest qualifier at Mosport, but tails failed Davis in the coin toss, handing Randy Pobst in the No. 1 K-PAX Racing Volvo S60 the sharp end of the grid. Second-starting Jason Daskalos in the No. 5 Daskalos Developments Dodge Viper gets the holeshot on the standing start to take the lead from Pobst, but Davis makes a stellar start as well and is on Daskalos’ bumper in no time, with Tony Rivera, Andy Pilgrim, Eric Curran and Dino Crescentini in hot pursuit. Be sure to tune into SPEED to see if Daskalos can hold off a train of World Challenge race winners to take his very first win.
