MACQUARIE PARK, AUSTRALIA – July 6, 2009: Hyundai Motor Company Australia’s dynamic and customer focussed Dealer network has once again achieved an outstanding sales result, producing HMCA’s best ever monthly sales result; selling 7,862 vehicles and achieving a 7.6% market share.

In a market that was down 16.1% (June YTD 2009 v. June YTD 2008), Hyundai was still the only top ten brand that posted a sales increase in terms of YTD sales, posting six consecutive months of monthly year-on-year growth with an average growth rate of 21%.

Highlights include:

  • For the third consecutive month, Hyundai ranked fifth overall in terms of YTD total sales.
  • Hyundai’s June YTD market share was 6.6% with 29,935 vehicles sold, compared to 4.5% and 24,417 vehicles last year.
  • Hyundai’s overall market share increased from 5.1% in June 2008 to 7.6% in June 2009, the brand’s highest monthly market share since December 2001.
  • Hyundai realised sales increases of 44.3% (June 2009 v. June 2008) and 22.6% (June YTD 2009 v. June YTD 2008).

  • Hyundai Getz was ranked first in the light car segment in June achieving 2,263 vehicle sales and a 19.6% market share.
  • The multi-award winning i30 range ranked third in the small car segment in June after posting its best ever sales result of 2,742 cars (including 466 new i30cw wagons), continuing a third placing YTD.
  • The iLoad van range ranked second in the van segment after posting its best ever sales result of 549 vans, consolidating its second position in YTD sales.
  • Hyundai Tucson was ranked second in the SUV compact segment after posting its best ever sales result of 1,446 vehicles.
  • Hyundai moved up to fourth place in terms of passenger car sales, increasing from 6.2% in June 2008 to 10% market share in June 2009 (the highest monthly passenger car market share since December 2001).
  • Hyundai also ranked fourth in the SUV segment increasing from 6.5% in June 2008 to 8.5% market share last month.

“June was Hyundai Motor Company Australia’s best ever month,” said Kevin McCann, Hyundai’s Director of Sales and Marketing. “One of the key reasons we have seen steady growth so far this year, has been the expanding customer base across a wide range of buyer and social demographics. The changing perception of the brand is resulting in an increase in retail and corporate sales.”
