SEOUL, KOREA – July 1, 2009: GM Daewoo Auto & Technology (GM Daewoo) announced today that it sold 11,234 vehicles in Korea and exported 27,009 vehicles in June, for total monthly sales of 38,243 vehicles.

GM Daewoo’s domestic vehicle sales in June rose 37.8 percent from sales of 8,155 vehicles in the previous month. It was the third consecutive month of sales growth. Domestic sales in June, however, were down 17.6 percent from 13,632 vehicles sold domestically in the same month of 2008.

Domestic sales were buoyed by stronger demand for the Lacetti Premiere, GM Daewoo’s next-generation lower-medium sedan, and Winstorm SUV. Domestic sales of Lacetti Premiere totaled 5,278 vehicles, which was a monthly record. Diesel prices that were lower than gasoline prices and strong market demand for fuel-efficient vehicles boosted sales of the Winstorm.

Exports of complete vehicles by the automaker in June were down 66.5 percent from June 2008, when it registered complete vehicle exports of 80,557 vehicles. In June, GM Daewoo also exported 69,885 complete knockdown (CKD) kits of parts and components to be assembled into vehicles.

"We are pleased to see GM Daewoo's domestic sales continuing to increase, led by the new Lacetti Premiere which is gaining popularity due to its dynamic style and overall value,” said Rick Labelle, vice president of GM Daewoo Sales, Service and Marketing. “We expect our total vehicle sales including exports to improve in the second half of the year as global markets start to recover and we prepare to add the Next Generation Matiz to our domestic product lineup this fall.”

GM Daewoo started exporting the Lacetti Premiere to Europe and Asia Pacific in February. It expects export sales to continue rising because of the positive market response to its segment-leading roominess and safety as well as its refined and dynamic design.

In the first half of the year, GM Daewoo recorded total sales of 261,009 vehicles. Domestic vehicle sales totaled 45,045 vehicles, while exports reached 215,964 vehicles.

Domestic vehicle sales in the first half of the year shrank 33.9 percent to 45,045 vehicles from 68,108 vehicles in the same period last year, while the company’s vehicle exports fell 50.3 percent to 215,964 vehicles from 434,163 vehicles exported in the same period last year.

GM Daewoo Auto & Technology was established on October 17, 2002. It has five manufacturing facilities in Korea as well as an assembly facility in Vietnam. In addition, GM Daewoo provides market and brand-specific vehicle kits for assembly at GM facilities in China, Thailand, India, Colombia and Venezuela. In 2008, GM Daewoo sold in Korea and exported more than 1.9 million units, including CKD products. GM Daewoo now produces vehicles and kits for Chevrolet, Buick, Opel, Vauxhall, Pontiac, Holden and Suzuki that are offered in more than 150 markets on six continents. Imported GM products from the Cadillac and Saab premium brands are sold in Korea through GM AutoWorld retailers.
