INGOLSTADT, GERMANY – June 29, 2009: The Audi Cup has been met with huge response and eager anticipation: More than 100,000 soccer fans have secured their tickets for the meetings between FC Bayern München, AC Milan, Manchester United and Boca Juniors at Munich’s Allianz Arena on July 29 and 30. Only a few remaining tickets are available for the final day of the tournament that is making its debut on the occasion of the Audi brand’s 100th anniversary.
“We’re highly pleased with the great interest the Audi Cup has generated,” says Peter Schwarzenbauer, Executive Board Member for Marketing and Sales of AUDI AG. “The fans will create a tremendous atmosphere at the Allianz Arena and turn the tournament into a real soccer bonanza.” Numerous supporters from the countries of the top-class international clubs have announced their attendance as well.
Besides being a soccer show for the spectators, the Audi Cup is also the ultimate litmus test for the four teams before the new season starts. This is particularly the case for FC Bayern München who will have to compete against SpVgg Neckarselz only a weekend later in the first round of the DFB Cup. The pairings were drawn on Saturday during the DTM round at the Nuremberg Norisring. In the race on Sunday Audi driver and soccer fan Oliver Jarvis again advertised the Audi Cup in Munich on his 460-hp Audi A4 DTM. A number of celebrities, including Ski World Champion Maria Riesch and TV host Kai Pflaume, previously completed a few laps in the Audi Cup race taxi.
Even though the transfer carousel is in full swing at the moment and will continue to be until the kick-off in Munich – this much is clear already: The fans at the Allianz Arena will see international super stars in action. On the first playing day newcomer Mario Gomez in the match against AC Milan will make his major debut in the team jersey of FC Bayern. Which stars Manchester United will sign to stand their ground alongside Wayne Rooney against high-caliber players like Ronaldinho or Filippo Inzaghi after Christiano Ronaldo’s departure remains an exciting question.
Fans who would like to witness these duels live should hurry up: Advance ticket sales are handled by the usual advance ticket sales locations of FC Bayern and the FCB Service Center on Säbener Straße.
