Nissan Production, Sales, Export Results For May 2009

TOKYO, JAPAN – June 25, 2009: Nissan Motor Co., Ltd today announced production, sales and export figures for May, 2009.

1. Production
Nissan's global production in May decreased 27.0% year-on-year to 201,340 units.

Production in Japan decreased 36.3% year-on-year to 63,859 units, reflecting a smaller decline compared to previous month of April.

Production outside of Japan decreased 21.7% year-on-year to 137,481 units.

In the U.S., production decreased 41.4% year-on-year to 25,389 units.

In Mexico, production decreased 33.1% year-on-year to 27,933 units.

In the U.K., production decreased 19.9% year-on-year to 26,221 units.

In Spain, production decreased 68.4% year-on-year to 5,518 units.

In China, production saw a significant increase of 56.8% year-on-year to 40,340 units due to increased demand for Teana and Tiida.

Production in other regions fell 17.6% year-on-year to 12,080 units.

2. Sales
Global sales decreased 21.4% to 259,196 units compared to the previous year.

Including mini-vehicles, Nissan sold 37,855 units in Japan, down 12.9% year-on-year. Market share was down 0.9 percentage points year-on-year to 13.0%.

In Japan, vehicle registrations in May decreased 9.1% year-on-year to 30,618 units. However, sales of the Nissan ECO series which qualified for preferential tax including Cube, NV200, Note and X-TRAIL saw an increase. Nissan's share of the domestic market registrations in April was up 2.0 percentage points year-on-year to 17.2%.

Domestic sales of mini-vehicles were down 26.1% from the previous year to 7,237 units.

Sales outside of Japan decreased 22.7% year-on-year to 221,341 units.

Sales in the U.S. decreased 33.1% year-on-year to 67,489 units. Market share was at 7.3%, a record high for month of May.

In Europe, sales decreased 29.8% year-on-year to 37,891 units.

China also saw a record month of May with sales improving 20.5% year-on-year to 57,949 units due to increased demand for Teana, Sylphy, and Tiida.

Sales in other regions were down 28.5% from the previous year to 40,108 units.

3. Japan Exports
Nissan's exports in May decreased 55.9% year-on-year to 24,629 units.

Exports to North America decreased 36.7% year-on-year to 15,191 units.

Exports to Europe decreased 82.6% year-on-year to 1,464 units due to decline seen in Russia.
