Spartan Stores Offers GM Auto Workers Support with MICHIGAN PROUD Card

Card offers 10% on groceries and 3 cents off fuel through July 12, 2009

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., June 19 -- Spartan Stores, grocery supplier to independent grocers and operator of 99 retail stores throughout Michigan, announced today that the Company is stepping up to provide support to the General Motors auto workers who have lost their jobs due to the May closure of the GM Metal Fabricating Plant located at 300 36th Street SW in Wyoming. Spartan has also offered the program to UAW locals in Eastern Michigan and Traverse City, Michigan.

On June 1, 2009, Spartan Stores provided 850 MICHIGAN PROUD cards to the UAW Region 1D office for distribution to the autoworkers affected by the plant closing. These bar coded cards provide a 10% discount on groceries and 3% on fuel now through July 12, 2009 when scanned prior to a transaction at any D&W Fresh Market, Family Fare, Felpausch, Glen's Markets, Glen's Fresh Marketplace or VG's Michigan location.
