Millville, June 12, 2009: Only one second separates the top 15 competitors of the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear as they prepare for the first of two races at the Mazda Formula X doubleheader in New Jersey this weekend. Clocking in a time of 1:16.329 was the young Canadian, Taylor Hacquard, achieving a fifth place position and career best qualifying start.

Taylor on qualifying: “It was fantastic to finish the qualifying session with such a good result. I’ve been struggling all year, especially in qualifying, so to have everything click today and fall into place was great for me and for the guys, especially. I had no problems with the car, and I’m very pleased with the end result. Now I’m just hoping for the best tomorrow.”

Chris on qualifying: “The track changed a lot depending on whether there was a cloud covering it or not. We all set faster times under the clouds, so I was trying to time when I went out for a lap depending on that. Unfortunately, when the clouds were out, I was sitting in the pits most of the time. Overall, I had a really good car and a good session today, and I’m looking forward to the first of two races tomorrow.”

Kristy on qualifying: “We had a good car going this session, but all of a sudden I started losing power and when I went over a curb, my engine just died. It’s really frustrating because we should’ve been up there, and we should’ve done better. I just hope everything gets sorted out for the race tomorrow.”

J.C. on the qualifying: “The session did not go that well for us. We tried a completely “out there” setup for qualifying which did not prove to be successful. Needless to say, we’re going to have a whole new car setup for the race tomorrow, and hopefully we’ll be a lot better.”

Round 4 of the Star Mazda Championship takes place tomorrow at the New Jersey Motorsports Park in Millville. This marks the second year the track has been up and running and the second year the series has competed on it. Both races will be broadcast live on Saturday and Sunday on HDNet from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm EDT.
