Millville, June 12, 2009: Mazdaspeed driver Conor Daly dominated day one of the Mazda Formula X double header weekend at New Jersey Morotsport Park by being the fastest in every session and taking his first pole position of the season. The young American lapped the 2.25 mile natural road course in a time of 1:15.969, at an average speed of 102.831. After dealing with handling issues yesterday, Daly was flying from the start today, being fastest in the the first wet session, then repeating his performance in the second dry session after the weather improved. Once qualifying started in bright sunshine, Daly was a threat immediately and his lap times became faster and faster as the sesson wore on. Finally with less than five minutes to go, he put in two laps that were good enough to secure the pole.

"We were struggling yesterday, but my guys at Andersen Racing put in a serious thrash and we sorted the car out overnight," said Conor. Today, with the weather being kind of weird we didn't really know what we were going to have to deal with. Regardless, we were fast out of the box, so I'm real proud of my team. This weekend is going to be a big deal with HDnet coming on board with Mazda to telecast our races. I'm proud to be the network's first pole sitter, and I 'm also proud to get my first pole in one of the upper-level open-wheel series.
