TULAMARINE, AUSTRALIA – June 12, 2009: The Honda Foundation has adopted a room at the Toowoomba Hospice to assist terminally ill patients receiving palliative care.

The Foundation raised $5,000 for the Hospice through the sale of ASIMO merchandise at the Honda stand at Farmfest in Toowoomba earlier this month.

ASIMO, short for Advanced Step in Innovative MObility, is the world’s first humanoid robot developed by Honda and is a milestone in robotics engineering. All proceeds from the sale of this merchandise were donated.

The Toowoomba Hospice is a community facility that provides palliative care to the terminally ill, free-of-charge. It is funded through Government assistance and private donations.

The Hospice has six beds that provide a private, home-like atmosphere for clients, their family and friends. The ‘Adopt a Room’ program enables the Hospice to maintain these beds and offer a fresh and comfortable environment for people in their final stages of life.

Mr. Peter Roberts from Peter Roberts Honda in Toowoomba and Honda Australia’s Queensland Manager Mr. Ian Meyers, presented a cheque for $5,000 to Mr. Mark Munro from the Toowoomba Hospice.

“The Hospice is a worthy recipient of this donation and is well regarded in the Toowoomba area,” Chairman of The Honda Foundation, Mr. Lindsay Smalley said. “The Foundation is proud to support the ‘Adopt a Room’ program.”
