Supreme Court Stays Chrysler Deal

Washington, June 8, 2009: The Supreme Court stayed the pending Chrysler-Fiat deal today after Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg reviewed a petition to the top court by three Indiana pension funds.
Ginsburg, said the orders of the bankruptcy judge allowing the sale "are stayed pending further order of the undersigned or of the court."
The funds, represented by attorney Thomas Lauria, challenged a U.S. appeals court in New York that approved Chrysler's sale to a group led by Fiat, a UAW health care trust and the U.S. and Canadian governments. The court deliberation again delays the sale, which had been rescheduled for today.
