Mitsubishi Motors Announces Production, Sales and Export figures for April 2009

TOKYO, JAPAN - May 28, 2009: Mitsubishi Motors Corporation today announced global production, as well as domestic sales and export figures for April 2009.
Total global production for April came in at 46,289 units, a decline of 54.3 percent over April 2008 and the fourteenth consecutive monthly decrease since March 2008. Production volume in Japan at 22,849 units was down 63.7 percent as a 67.7 percent decrease in passenger car (18,429 units) and a 26.0 percent decline in commercial vehicle (4,420 units) output saw year-on-year output fall for the sixth consecutive month.
Vehicle sales in Japan in April totaled 8,603 units, a 26.6 percent decrease year-on-year and the 20th consecutive monthly decline since September 2007. Registered vehicle sales volume at 3,087 units was 28.6 percent down on the same month last year. Minicar sales volume at 5,516 units was 25.4 percent down.
Overseas production volume totaled 23,440 units, 38.8 percent down over April last year and the thirteenth consecutive monthly decline. By region, output in North America was 100 percent down as all production has been halted due to very slow sales in the United States. In Europe, output was 9.1 percent up thanks to firm sales of the Colt in Germany.
Total exports from Japan of 9,436 units were 76.4 percent down on April 2008, marking the sixth consecutive month of year-on-year decreases. Exports to Asia at 1,249 units were 63.9 percent down on April. Exports to Europe at 1,189 units were 93.0 percent down. Exports to North America at 1,571 units were 65.6 percent down.
