Cunningham’s Indy Lights Victory at Indy Propels Him To Favorite Status at The Mile This Coming Weekend

Firestone Indy Lights On-Track Activities For Husar’s House of Fine Diamonds 100 presented by Charter begin Saturday Morning at 8:15 a.m.

West Allis, Wis. (May 23, 2009) – Wade Cunningham picked up his second victory in the Firestone Freedom 100 race in Indianapolis yesterday, and now the 2005 Firestone Indy Lights champion has momentum on his side heading into this coming Saturday and Sunday’s events at The Milwaukee Mile.
Although he’s been close, one thing missing from Cunningham’s trophy case is a European imported crystal trophy from a victory at The Milwaukee Mile. The odds-on favorite after his dominant Indy performance from the pole position, Cunningham and his Sam Schmidt Motorsports team hope to be the ones to be handed to the winner’s hardware by Husar’s House of Fine Diamonds President Mike Husar on Sunday afternoon, May 31 at America’s Legendary Oval.
In previous Firestone Indy Lights 100-mile sprint races at The Mile, Cunningham has finished second 2005 and again in 2006 after starting on the pole.

Other Indy Lights drivers who did well in the Firestone Freedom 100 and are expected to be on-track next Saturday morning when one-hour practice session goes green at 8:15 a.m. include current point leader J.R. Hildebrand and his AFS/Andretti/Green teammate Sebastian Saavedra, a surprising-to-some oval winner in April at Kansas Speedway.

Cunningham will be gunning for his third straight pole position on Saturday, May 30, during the two-lap average qualifying session, scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m.

Also expected to be competitive at The Milwaukee Mile include drivers Andrew Prendeville, who started 15th and charged to fourth in last year’s event at The Mile, Jonathan Summerton, who led the points going into Indy and is currently third, and promising rookie Charlie Kimball.

Ana Beatriz is expected to compete at The Milwaukee Mile, if there is a car ready for her. During the Firestone Freedom 100, the Brazilian driver had a frightening wreck in which she made hard contact in a serious-looking crash. Luckily, her injuries were limited to a cut on the chin and bumps and bruises.

Nearly two dozen drivers are expected to compete in the Husar’s House of Fine Diamonds 100 presented by Charter next Sunday, the same day as the ABC Supply/A.J. Foyt 225 IndyCar Series race.
Sunday, May 31 race tickets starting at $20 are available at The Milwaukee Mile Ticket Office, by calling (414) 453-8277, or by visiting the speedway’s website, www.milwaukeemile.com.
