TOPEKA, May 19, 2009: SCCA Pro Racing has announced the addition of a Spec Racer Ford Double Invitational and Formula Enterprises Invitational to the bill at Round Seven of the Muscle Milk® SCCA® Trans-Am Series, September 5 – 6, at Bluegrass Motorsports Park.
Rekindling memories of the Pro Spec Racer series, which ran from 1994 to 2002, SCCA Pro Racing will once again sanction and organize a professional event for Spec Racer Ford competitors. The most popular SCCA Club Racing class will be joined by one of the fastest growing classes: Formula Enterprises. A doubleheader for SRF and single race for FE, both utilizing a unique qualifying format, will be run in conjunction with Round Seven of the Muscle Milk® SCCA® Trans-Am Series to compose an exceptional weekend of SCCA Pro racing.
“Bringing back a professional Spec Racer Ford race and Formula Enterprises race is an exciting step forward for SCCA Pro Racing,” SCCA Pro Racing President & CEO Robert Wildberger said. “It wasn’t too long ago that Pro Spec Racer Ford ran on major U.S. racing weekends and now here it is, back with a reborn Trans-Am Series. The event at Bluegrass Motorsports Park this fall could be a glimpse at the future of SCCA Pro Racing as we continue to grow.”
Information regarding registration and a promoter test day will be posted in the coming weeks at www.sccapro.com. Entry for the SRF doubleheader is set at $900 for both races, while the FE registration will cost $600. Drivers will also be required to purchase a Provisional Pro Racing License for the weekend if they are not in possession of a professional racing license. In return, competitors can expect some handsome payouts, including $2,000 for an SRF win and $1,500 for the FE win.
“This is a huge moment for SCCA Enterprises,” SCCA Enterprises President Erik Skirmants said. “Spec Racer Ford has always been one of the most popular classes in SCCA, so it was no surprise to see fields nearing 50 cars for the former Pro Spec Racer series. Participation in Formula Enterprises has been increasing exceptionally well since its introduction in 2003, and we’re expecting strong fields for both classes at Bluegrass Motorsports Park. The SRF and FE communities are already buzzing about this landmark event and we all hope that this is the start to a renewed relationship with SCCA Pro Racing and a return to quality, professional racing events for SRF and FE.”
The Spec Racer Ford is an enclosed-wheel, open cockpit, purpose built race car powered by a 1.9-liter Ford engine. More than 800 spec racers have been produced since 1983. The Formula Enterprises car is a single-design, open-wheel, fixed specification car powered by a 2.3-liter Mazda engine. Both cars are designed and produced by SCCA Enterprises and were created with the intention of providing fun and competitive racing at an affordable price.
“It’s incredible to be adding professional Spec Racer Ford and Formula Enterprises races to the Trans-Am weekend,” Bluegrass Motorsports Park President & CEO Brad Poppell said. “Both classes have a strong following in SCCA and it is our pleasure to host a professional event for them. The mix of sports racers, open-wheel and powerful Trans-Am cars will make for an exciting weekend.”
