Mazda Updates Titan Truck

Hiroshima, May 15, 2009; Mazda Motor Corporation has updated the Mazda Titan, a medium-duty truck for the Japanese market. The freshened models go on sale nationwide today at all Mazda and Mazda Anfini dealers.

The updated Mazda Titan lineup offers improved environmental and fuel economy performance. The standard and middle cabin models*1 with a three-ton cargo capacity now meet Japan's FY2015 heavy-duty vehicle fuel economy standards.*2 Additionally, all standard cabin model grades are now equipped with indicator lights on the lower part of the doors to make turn signals more visible. To further improve safety, an electronic voice alert is incorporated with the diesel particulate diffuser (DPD)*3 and Smoother.*4

Main features of the revamped Titan - More model grades meet Japan's FY2015 heavy-duty vehicle fuel economy standards. Thanks to a newly adopted transmission, the standard and middle cabin models with a three-ton cargo capacity*1 now meet Japan's heavy-duty vehicle fuel economy standards. In addition to the standard and middle cabin Titan models with 1.5-ton and two-ton cargo capacity, these models qualify for automobile weight tax and automobile acquisition tax reductions which come into effect through Japan's FY2009 tax revision.*5

- Indicator lights are installed at the bottom of the doors as standard equipment on all standard cabin models. (As a result, the entire Titan series lineup complies with the revisions to Japan's regulations concerning lighting systems, scheduled to come into effect in April 2010.) - An electronic voice alert system that comes with the DPD*3 and Smoother.*4

*1 Excluding some AWD models.

*2 From fiscal year 2015 onwards, automobile manufacturers who produce heavy-duty diesel vehicles for the domestic market must achieve the target weighted average fuel consumption for all vehicles that are shipped.

*3 Diesel Particulate Diffuser. The DPD is an after-treatment technology to regenerate the filter by efficiently burning particulate matter (PM) that is captured in the ceramic filter.

*4 An electronically-controlled easy drive system that enables both automatic and sequential manual control of the transmission.

*5 Special tax reductions that apply when purchasing heavy-duty vehicles that qualify as 2005 Low Emission Heavy-Duty Vehicles (NOx and/or PM emissions are 10 percent lower than Japan's New Long-term Emissions Regulations) and meet the 2015 Heavy-Duty Vehicle Fuel Economy Standards. This arrangement will remain in effect for newly registered vehicles through April 30, 2012 for automobile weight tax, and March 31, 2012 for automobile acquisition tax.
