Nissan Reports April Sales in Europe

ROLLE, SWITZERLAND – May 7, 2009: Nissan in Europe has reported 37,980 sales in April, representing a decrease of 16% year on year.

“Overall we are not seeing any improvement year on year in the European market. Some markets like Germany increased due to continued scrapping schemes but this is offset by deterioration in Spain and Russia. Our sales performance is in line with expectations and some key countries such as Russia, Italy, UK and Spain have improved their market share year on year,” said Francois Goupil de Bouillé, Vice President - Sales for Nissan in Europe.

Key markets highlights:

  • Provisional market shares in Russia (5.4%), Spain (4.3%), UK (3.9%) and Italy (2.6%) have increased year on year
  • TIV is down 24% which is in line with the trend of the last 6 months
  • Scrap incentives continue to stimulate the market in Germany up 17%

  • Micra sales increased by 4.4% compared to 2008

  • Nissan employs around 13,500 people in its European design, research and development, manufacturing, logistics, and sales and marketing operations. In calendar year 2008, the company sold 601,647 vehicles across 40 markets in Western and Eastern Europe including Russia. Furthermore, the company produced a total of 539,580 vehicles in its Spanish and British plants.
