Second Jury Appointed for the Nationalgalerie Prize For Young Art 2009.

MUNICH/BERLIN, GERMANY - April 20, 2009: Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev (curator at the Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea Turin and director of the documenta 13 in Kassel 2012), Sam Keller (director of the Beyeler Foundation, Basel), Udo Kittelmann (director of the Nationalgalerie, Berlin), Gabriele Knapstein (curator at the Hamburger Bahnhof – Museum für Gegenwart, Berlin) and Christine Macel (head curator of the Musée National d'Art Moderne, Paris) have been appointed second jury of the Nationalgalerie Prize for Young Art 2009. The four nominated male and female artists – Keren Cytter, Omer Fast, Annette Kelm and Danh Vo – will present their works at a joint exhibition taking place at the Hamburger Bahnhof Museum für Gegenwart in Berlin from September 11, 2009 to January 3, 2010.

The second jury will select the winner from the four nominees on the strength of their works presented at the exhibition and will award the prize at a festive award ceremony being held on September 22nd, 2009.

Members of the first jury were Massimiliano Gioni (Nicola Trussardi Foundation, Milan and New Museum for Contemporary Art, New York), Jessica Morgan (Tate Modern, London), Beatrix Ruf (Kunsthalle Zurich), Janneke de Vries (Gesellschaft für aktuelle Kunst, Bremen) and Bernhart Schwenk (Pinakothek der Moderne, Munich). They selected the four candidates from a longlist comprising around 130 names. The longlist was compiled from the proposals submitted by about 150 museum directors and curators as well as approximately 1,500 members of the Verein der Freunde der Nationalgalerie.

The Nationalgalerie Prize for Young Art, which is made possible by the Verein der Freunde der Nationalgalerie and exclusively sponsored by the BMW Group, is being awarded for the fifth time. In addition to this commitment, BMW supports contemporary fine arts with the “Prix BMW” of the Paris Photo and the “Premio de Pintura” in Madrid. Moreover, BMW has awarded grants to international artists since 2008 within the framework of the Leipzig International Art Programme (LIA). Including its long-term cooperation with international art fairs and the Art Car program BMW is actively involved with over 100 worldwide engagements in the areas of contemporary art, music as well as architecture and design.
