Conor Daly Salvages 5th Place Finish At Bosch Engineering 250

Alton, April 26, 2009: Mazdaspeed driver Conor Daly produced a determined drive to salvage a 5th place finish at today's Bosch Engineering 250 at Virginia International Raceway (VIR).
After starting 6th, a lap 1, turn 1 crash immediately caused a yellow flag, and on the insuing re-start Daly had to evade a chain-reaction wreck when pole-sitter Adam Christodoulou's brake-checked the field at the green flag. The resulting melee forced Conor to take avoiding action that resulted in a spin in the middle of the racetrack. After re-starting in 9th, the next 13 laps were marred by a series of nonsensical incidents, leaving him with a tough 3-lap dash for the checker.
As the flag dropped at lap 15, Conor picked up 7th place with a bold outside move at turn 1, followed by taking 6th on lap 16, then finally had to settle for 5th at the line. "For me, today was another example of not having enough laps at the end," said Conor, "the race rythim was so inconsistent that I had to really hustle the car to save 5th. Regardless, my team did a great job today, and we'll take today's points and get ready for Utah."
Today's drive puts Conor tied for 3rd in the Championship, with 69 points.
