RUSSELSHEIM, GERMANY – April 22, 2009: Malcolm Ward has been named Director of Exterior Design for General Motors Europe, effective immediately. In this capacity, he will be charged with overseeing the exterior design of the Opel/Vauxhall brand vehicles. Ward succeeds Phillip Zak, who has left the company.

Ward, 44, last held the position of Chief Designer Advanced Concepts, but he is perhaps best known in Opel/Vauxhall as chief exterior designer of the Insignia, named Car of the Year 2009 and winner of the prestigious red dot design award.

The British citizen studied industrial design at the University of Coventry and at the Royal College of Art in London before starting his career at Vauxhall and Opel. In the more than 20 years Ward has worked at Opel, he has put his creative juices to work in such diverse projects as the Calibra and the current Zafira.

“We are very pleased to have Malcolm heading up exterior design at this important moment for Opel/Vauxhall, as we continue to make bold steps forward with our new design language,” says Mark Adams, Vice President GM Europe Design.
