Josh Grant returns to the podium at the Edward Jones Dome

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. March 30, 2009: The first supercross race held in St. Louis's Edward Jones Dome was on April 27, 1996 and was won by a young racer named Jeff Emig. 13 years later, Emig, now an announcer for SPEED, was on hand calling the action along with 55,815 fans, a 15 percent increase over last year's pre- recession crowd.

Nathan Ramsey, substituting for Cody Cooper, and still re-acclimating himself to competition after a year-long layoff, did not make the main event. Ramsey missed qualifying from his heat race by just two positions, and then finished fifth in a stacked last chance qualifier that moved only the first two into the main.

Josh Grant transferred directly to the main from his heat race. The rookie pulled the holeshot in the main, and led the first two laps before the dueling veterans Reed and Stewart went by. It was on the second lap that Grant snagged his gear shifter on a track marker rendering it useless. He rode the remaining 17 laps with his transmission locked in third gear to take his third podium of the season. "I got a good start but I bent my shifter on the second lap," said Grant. "I kept my cool and hit my lines smooth and here we are." Grant's third place finish moves him up to fourth in series points, and makes him the top-seeded rookie. After 12 of 17 rounds the Supercross Class (450cc) standings are:

1. Chad Reed 271 (three wins) 2. James Stewart 260 (eight wins) 3. Andrew Short 197 4. Josh Grant 172 (one win) 5. Ryan Villopoto 165

The original broadcast for the St. Louis supercross will air today at 6:00 p.m. (EST) on SPEED. The next round of the series will be March 28 in Toronto, Ontario, at the Rogers Centre. The original broadcast will be on March 29 at 12:00 p.m. (EST) on CBS.
