Nissan Production, Sales And Export Results For February 2009

TOKYO, JAPAN – March 24, 2009: : Nissan Motor Co., Ltd, today announced its sales, production and export results for February 2009.
1. Production
2008 saw global vehicle demand decline sharply
due to the global financial and economic crisis. In response, Nissan has
made a series of production adjustments in order to manage inventory levels
and ensure a balanced production supply.
Nissan's global production in February decreased 51.3% year-on-year to 156,864 units.
Production in Japan decreased 68.8% year-on-year to 43,885 units.
Production outside of Japan decreased 37.8% year-on-year to 112,979 units.
In the U.S., production decreased 53.3% year-on-year to 26,029 units.
In Mexico, production decreased 30.3% year-on-year to 23,181 units.
In the U.K., production decreased 41.5% year-on-year to 21,597 units.
In Spain, production decreased 86.1% year-on-year to 2,915 units.
Production in the General Overseas Markets (GOM) increased 12.8% year-on-year to 39,257 units due to increased demand in China for the Livina series and Tiida.
2. Sales
Global sales decreased 25.2% to 242,280 units
compared to the previous year.
In Japan, Nissan's vehicle registrations in February decreased 35.2% year-on-year to 40,686 units. Nissan's share of the domestic market registrations in February was down 0.8 percentage points year-on-year to 18.6%.
Domestic sales of mini-vehicles were up 9.2% from the previous year to 14,895 units due to increased demand for KIX mini-SUV.
Including mini-vehicles, Nissan sold 55,581 units in Japan, down 27.3% year-on-year. Market share was down 0.6 percentage points year-on-year to 14.6%.
Nissan sales in the U.S. decreased 37.1% year-on-year to 54,249 units. Market share was up 0.6 percentage points year-on-year to 7.9% marking a record high for February.
In Europe, sales decreased 36.6% year-on-year to 33,991 units.
Sales in the GOM regions were down 2.6% from the previous year to 81,479 units. Sales in China increased 38.1% year on year due to strong sales of compact cars and increased demand over the Chinese New Year period.
3. Japan Exports
Nissan's exports in February decreased 77.6%
year-on-year to 16,811 units.
Exports to North America decreased 78.0% year-on-year to 6,314 units.
Exports to Europe decreased 92.1% year-on-year to 689 units.
