Sebring, March 21, 2009: Mazdaspeed driver Conor Daly made a superb debut in the Star Mazda series by charging from sixteenth on the grid to a third place finish at the opening round of the championship today at Sebring, Florida. “I just wish there were more laps” said Conor after a dust up with JDC driver, Caio Lara where the two cars touched exiting the hairpin on the last lap. Lara was penalized for pushing Daly onto the grass which moved him up to third place.
A late race full course yellow set up a two lap dash with Daly running in fifth place behind Irelands, Peter Dempsey. On the restart, Daly passed Dempsey entering turn one and set out after Lara. On two separate occasions Daly attempted the pass on the last lap only to be pushed onto the grass both times.
Conor’s next race will be at Virginia International Raceway, April 25th.
