MLADA BOLESLAV, CZECZ REPUBLIC – March 20, 2009: The volumes of engines and transmissions produced at Škoda Auto have climbed up to the Company's maximum production capacity levels over the first months of this year. Despite the global financial crisis, the engine manufacturing plant is increasing its production in response to strong demand.

“The production of low-volume engines manufactured at Škoda Auto has grown to 1,600 items a day, the reason being the car scrap scheme and, consequently, increasing demand for small vehicles. This increase has come in the context of the current economic recession and the average daily production of 1,200 engines that we were achieving for quite a long time up until recently. Furthermore, the increased demand has a positive impact upon the production of transmissions – the current daily plan is 2,000 items,“ said Horst Mühl, Škoda Auto BOD Member responsible for production and logistics.

Besides finished vehicles, Škoda Auto produces a number of major components that are used in cars of its own brand as well as by other brands within the Volkswagen Group. The car manufacturer's portfolio includes low-volume three-cylinder engines 1.2 HTP 44 kW 6V and 1.2 HTP 51 kW 12V and the MQ200 transmission.

The engines and the transmission unit referred to above are installed to Škoda Fabia, Škoda Roomster, Volkswagen Polo, Volkswagen Fox, Seat Ibiza and Seat Cordoba vehicles.
