MOORESVILLE, North Carolina Tuesday, March 3, 2009: Owner Curtis Key has announced today that Key Motorsports and NASCAR Nationwide Series crew chief Tommy Morgan will part ways, effective immediately. The decision for Morgan's departure from the team was mutual.
Morgan served as the team's competition director for two seasons before being promoted to crew chief of Key Motorsports' first full-time Nationwide Series team early this year. The team's No. 40 NNS entry, driven by Scott Wimmer, has attempted three races, but failed to qualify for the February 21st race at Auto Club Speedway. Wimmer scored his best Key Motorsports finish this past weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway when he took the checkered flag in 11th.
The team's full-time Nationwide effort will not stall, despite Tommy Morgan's departure. Key Motorsports' NASCAR Camping World Truck Series crew chief Gary Showalter, who led the Nationwide Series effort in Las Vegas last weekend, will continue to serve as interim crew chief while the team searches for a replacement.
"The decision for Key Motorsports and Tommy Morgan to separate was very much a joint conclusion," stated team owner Curtis Key. "We will part ways on terms agreeable to both myself and Tommy, and I wish him luck in all future endeavors."
The next stop for the NASCAR Nationwide Series is Bristol Motor Speedway on March 21st
