Hyundai Previews i20 At Melbourne International Motor Show
MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA – February 27, 2009: Hyundai Motor Company previewed its all-new i20 small hatch at the 2009 Melbourne International Motor Show, alongside an array of exciting concept vehicles.
Set to go on sale in the 3rd quarter, the i20 will offer customers premium features and technology now appearing on many larger more expensive models.
The i20 range represents the next wave of the new 'i' generation of Hyundai cars. The long wheelbase gives the i20 an athletic stance and allowed the design team to develop a spacious interior package. The i20 carries through the 'i' generation bold chrome-topped front grille flanked by teardrop headlamps.
The i20 5 door car on display has 16" alloys with 195/50 R16 tyres, front fog lamps, iPodŽ, USB and AUX connectivity, steering wheel mounted audio controls, leather steering wheel and gear shift, 6 airbags and ESP Stability Control. It is presented in Berry Red paintwork with a black interior.
"The team at Hyundai and our Dealers are really excited about what the all-new i20 will offer Australian consumers," commented Kevin McCann, Director of Sales and Marketing. "With Generation X and Y turning to high quality cars offering value for money, the i20 will be specified to fulfil those needs and compete with products like Mazda 2, Toyota Yaris and Honda Jazz."
Designed by Hyundai's European design studio in Russelsheim, Germany, the i20 is trend leading and will attract customers who enjoy a mobile lifestyle in busy urban Australia.
Pricing will be made available at the time of launch mid this year.
Like the multi-award winning i30 hatch, the i20's suspension and steering will be tuned for Australian road conditions.
