Asian Games' Beach VB Given "Thumbs Up"

High Marks Given To Asian Games Beach Volleyball Facilities;
"Thumbs Up" Says Andrew Hercus To Beach VB

GUANGZHOU, China - February 24, 2009 - The 16th Asian Games (www.gz2010.cn/en), part of the worldwide Olympic movement and governed by the Olympic Council of Asia, has received approval of its plans for the Beach Volleyball venue at the Asian Games park.

Mr. Andrew Hercus, technical official of the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) and Technical Delegate for Beach Volleyball for the 16th Asian Games has completed his visit to the "Flower City" of Guangzhou to offer his input to the Guangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee’s (GAGOC) Beach Volleyball preparations for the Games. 

Mr. Wang Jianping and Mr. Xiang Qian, Director and Vice Director of the Beach Volleyball Department of the Volleyball Administration Center under the General Administration of Sport of China were also in attendance.

Mr. Hercus, Mr. Wang and Mr. Xiang inspected the Beach Volleyball Venue for the 16th Asian Games - accompanied by staff from varied GAGOC departments - including:

•	Sports
•	Venues & Overlays
•	External Relations
•	Broadcasting & Media Services 
•	Information Technology & Telecommunications 
•	Games Security and 
•	Preparation Team for the Asian Games Beach Volleyball  
        Competition, as well as the owner and designer of the
        Asian Games Beach Volleyball Venue

After the inspection tour, a meeting was held to exchange ideas on a variety of issues including the layout of and renovations to the venue, competition schedule, rules on how teams will be able to qualify for the Games and rules governing the selection and training of technical officials.

Mr. Hercus said that GAGOC's organizational work for Beach Volleyball was excellent and promised that the AVC would strengthen communication and cooperation with the organizers.

The 16th Asian Games (www.gz2010.cn/en) is approved and governed by the Olympic Council of Asia and will be held in “Flower City�?? of Guangzhou from November 12 - 27, 2010.  More than 14,000 athletes from 45 countries and regions will compete in 42 sports. More than 10,000 accredited and non-accredited worldwide media are anticipated to cover the Games with more than three million spectators expected to attend.
