Florida Electric Auto Association Hosts 4th Annual Battery Beach Burnout to Promote ‘Green’ Electric and Plug-in Hybrid Vehicle Technologies
LAKE WORTH, Fla.--The Florida Electric Auto Association (FLEAA) will be hosting the 4th Annual “Battery Beach Burnout,” an electric and hybrid vehicle competition, in Jupiter, FL at Florida Atlantic University February 21st and 22nd. The free event consists of multiple competitions involving electric vehicles (EV), hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) and plug-in hybrids (PHEV), including an auto-cross, scooter-cross, vehicle performance tests, Electrathon and Show-n-Shine events.
As the premier annual electric vehicle event in the Southeast, the purpose of Battery Beach Burnout is to raise public and media awareness of the current state of electric and hybrid vehicles and to educate people about ‘green’ alternative fuel vehicles. The event showcases and promotes alternative energy technologies to power vehicles of the future to solve our transportation, energy and air quality problems.
Saturday, starting at 9:00 AM, visitors will be able to ride in several of the cars on display in a ride and drive area - This will be an opportunity to look at all of the electric and hybrid vehicles being offered by the auto industry in one place. Visitors will also be able to participate and vote for their favorite car in the Show ‘n Shine competition. All types of vehicles from solar, fuel cell, electric and plug-in hybrid will be on display. Saturday will also feature the performance testing and Electrathon competitions.
Sunday, starting at 10 AM, the fan-favorite autocross will be held in two 2-hour sessions and the event will wind to an end at 3:30 PM with the raffle drawing and award ceremony.
The FLEAA is expecting close to 100 vehicles to participate in the multiple events and be on display throughout the weekend. There will also be vehicle and other alternative energy displays as well as vendors on-site throughout the weekend showing off the latest electric charging equipment, hybrids and battery technology. The vehicles and teams that participate in the events are comprised of individuals, professionals, high schools and colleges from around the country.
This event is free for spectators and is open to the public. There will be a registration fee for participants of $20 for automobiles (EV, HEV, PHEV) and $10 for scooters, motorcycles, karts and Electrathons.
