Toyota Continues to Sharpen Pencil to Keep Independent Shops and Vehicle Owners Happy

TORRANCE, Calif.--In these difficult economic times, automotive OEMs are employing strategies to help make the price of replacement parts more competitive to help make sure repair shops and vehicle owners get what they really want – OE quality, performance and warranty at a competitive price.

Recently, Toyota introduced the “third phase” of a “lower price” OE radiator program that averages about half the price.* With new applications for Sequoia, Sienna and Tundra, now shops can buy competitively-priced Genuine Toyota Radiators to cover 77% of Toyota vehicles in operation that are from three to ten years old.

“Of course, we all know that owners and shops want OE quality. We also know that there are a lot of cost-related issues, especially in the current economic environment,” said Len Zavallos, Toyota Product Planning and Development Manager. “That’s why Toyota works so hard to find ways to reduce costs, while maintaining that performance and quality Toyota owners expect.”

In cooling performance tests, these Genuine Toyota Radiators outperformed aftermarket imitations in both durability and performance, with some aftermarket radiators delivering 15% less cooling performance. 2

Parts consolidation can add efficiency and help to reduce cost, but it can also be a shortcut to disaster, especially where radiators and engine cooling are concerned. Consolidation must be implemented with careful regard to precise vehicle specifications, or engine integrity could be at risk.
