TOPEKA, Kan. January 23, 2009: Programming from the 45th SCCA National Championship Runoffs continues on SPEED, Monday, Jan. 26, with the American Sedan and Formula Enterprises races.
American Sedan rivals Andrew McDermid and John Heinricy face off at noon (EST). At the start, Heinricy manages to slip past McDermid’s No. 24 Felice Racing Engines Ford Mustang to take the lead. The pair quickly break away from the rest of the pack with McDermid shadowing Heinricy’s every move. Under constant pressure for 10 laps, Heinricy finally gives McDermid an opening when he drops a wheel at Turn One in his No. 58 Pontiac Firebird. Will McDermid be able to hold Heinricy off for the remaining laps and earn a Chicago Region Triple CrownŽ or will Heinricy have the last laugh? Watch carefully, this race has an unexpected ending.
Next, at 1 p.m. (EST), it’s the debut of Formula Enterprises at the Runoffs. Polesitter Mark Eaton in the No. 92 Global Aerospace/RMS/Cincy Images Formula Enterprises gets a slow start, allowing Nick Evans and Mathew Inge by right off the bat. Eaton keeps a cool head, however, quickly making his way around Inge’s No. 20 Land Development Solutions Formula Enterprises, then past Evans’ No. 91 Jay Motorsports/Buckolz Wall Systems Formula Enterprises for the lead on lap six. Inge smartly follows Eaton around Evans and the race becomes a two-car battle. Who will win the first-ever FE National Championship? Tune into SPEED to find out.
