Roseville, Calif. January 22, 2009: 22 year-old Drive for Diversity driver Katie Hagar, who recently relocated from Maine to Sacramento, will compete for Golden State Racing at Madera Speedway in Madera, Calif. in 2009.

In an announcement made today, Hagar will return to Drive for Diversity and the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series for a second season. She will drive Chevrolets prepared by Frank Jordan’s Golden State Racing and will be teammates with 2006 Stockcar Racing League champion Eric Schmidt of Roseville, Calif.

Madera Speedway runs the Western Late Model division as its NASCAR class. Both Hagar and Golden State Racing have had great success in the Western Late Model cars.

Schmidt claimed the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Western Late Model championship at Roseville’s All American Speedway in 2007.

In 2008, Golden State Racing development drivers Laura Hayes and Kristin Bumbera, both apart of Drive for Diversity, went head-to-head with Hagar on a weekly basis.

Hagar impressed team owner Frank Jordan with her runs at Roseville and earned a spot with his team with an equally impressive showing at the Drive for Diversity combine in October.

All told, Hagar put together 11 top-tens in 18 starts on the quarter-mile asphalt oval located just outside Sacramento, Calif. The runs allowed Hagar to crack the top 400 in the national NASCAR Whelen rankings.

Hagar and Schmidt will get their 2009 season off and running on March 21st at Madera Speedway in the Smoky Hanoian Classic. The twin-50s show will give them an opportunity to earn valuable state and national points in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series.

Schmidt kicks off Golden State Racing’s plans competing in this weekend’s Toyota All Star Showdown at Toyota Speedway in Irwindale, Calif. Schmidt is competing in the Late Model portion of the weekend, with the 75 lap event live on SPEED starting at 7 p.m. Pacific Time on Saturday night.
