Concord, N.C. January 19, 2009: It's been five years since the ScottsMiracle-Gro logo first appeared on a Roush Fenway Racing Ford driven by Carl Edwards. Both Scotts and Roush Fenway are proud to announce the extension of that relationship beginning in 2009 as Scotts will appear as the primary sponsor for 16 races on the No. 60 Ford with Edwards behind the wheel.
“It’s unbelievable to have Scotts back on the car,” said Edwards. “They’ve sponsored me since I started racing in the Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series five years ago and I’m proud to continue our relationship in 2009 and beyond. It means a lot to have everyone from Jim Hagedorn on down supporting me and the entire No. 60 team. I’ll do my best to bring them a second championship this year.”
“To be partnered with Carl and Roush Fenway Racing again in 2009 was an easy decision for The Scotts Company,” stated Jim Shertzer, Event Marketing & Sponsorship Manager. “Carl has been a great representative of The Scotts Company with integrity, passion and a winning attitude. After 5 years of partnering with us, Carl has picked up a few tips on lawn & gardening and we are excited to share those with race fans this coming year throughout the season!”
The Scotts logo will first appear on the No. 60 entry as the primary sponsor at Daytona in February when Edwards will pilot the No. 60 Scotts Bonus S Ford. Together in the Nationwide Series, the driver/sponsor combo have amassed seven poles, 15 wins, 49 top-five and 68 top-10 finishes along with claiming the 2007 Nationwide Series championship. Edwards fell just shy of a back-to-back championship in 2008 when he finished a mere 21 points behind Clint Bowyer.
The 2009 season will mark the fifth consecutive season that Edwards will compete full-time in both the Nationwide and Sprint Cup Series’. In February, Edwards will continue his quest to become the first driver ever to win a championship in both series in the same year.
