WOLFSBURG, Germany – January 19, 2009: Volkswagen is celebrating the delivery of the one millionth Volkswagen Touran. On Friday, Christian Klingler, Member of the Board of Management of the Volkswagen Brand with responsibility for Sales, Marketing and Aftersales, presented the anniversary vehicle to a family from Stade near Hamburg.

"We are proud of this delivery achievement. The flexible all-rounder has proved very popular with our customers since its launch. The compact van is one of the frontrunners in new registrations in Germany and Europe," Klingler commented during the vehicle hand-over. The success model built in Wolfsburg is the most popular vehicle in its segment in Germany. The compact van is also much in demand on other European markets such as Switzerland, Norway, Sweden and Latvia.

The Touran features low-consumption, environmentally-friendly gasoline and diesel engines with power output ranging from 66 kW/90 hp to 125 kW/170 hp. In terms of fuel economy, the Touran EcoFuel powered by natural gas and the Touran BlueMotion with CO2 emissions of only 144 g/km are particularly attractive. The "Park Assist" automatic parking feature in the Touran, which can be optionally equipped with seven seats, makes parking in the tightest spaces child’s play.

The Touran is available in Germany at a starting price of only €21,350. The most popular equipment line is "Trendline", closely followed by the "Highline" and "Conceptline" versions. With a share of almost 50 percent, the 1.9 l TDI diesel engine is the favorite worldwide, followed by the 2.0 l TDI version.

This is the second Touran for the Berg family from Stade. "We chose this particular Volkswagen model because it’s family-friendly and good value for money," Falk Berg, the family’s father, explained during the vehicle hand-over in the Autostadt. The anniversary vehicle is a Touran Conceptline equipped with a 1.6 l, 75 kW (102 hp) gasoline engine and 5-speed manual transmission. The paintwork is "Deep Black" pearl effect and the vehicle is equipped with air conditioning and a winter package as well as a multimedia jack for connecting external audio sources.
