Austin will be teaming up with Ryan Reed, the 2008 runner up from the Young Lions Division. Ryan is 15 years old and also resides in Bakersfield CA, finished last year with multiple wins and will help bring along Austin at a very fast pace. Both cars will be prepared out of Mark Reed's, Ryan's Dad, shop with Toby Tobias as the crew chief both cars. Toby has a long history in racing stock cars and helped Ryan run up front all last year.
While there is no relation, the Reed families have been friends for many years. Austin commented. "My Dad, Dave, and Ryan's Dad, Mark, have been racing in NASCAR Touring series for many years together. Mark as a driver and my Dad as a car owner. Our families have followed and supported one another's racing while growing up. Joining forces makes a lot of sense on both personal and cost sharing levels."
Austin continued, "I'm really looking forward to going in circles and racing for the wins at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale. We are going to do some testing at Willow Springs Speedway in January and also run a winter series there to help me get ready for the season opener at Irwindale. I ran a test session at Irwindale a few months back and really had fun getting used to going left and driving on pavement."
Austin will be making his circle track pavement debut this weekend January 11th at the Willow Springs 1/4 mile oval, the race is being promoted by Nick Jennings, Jon Christensen and Stock Car Syndicate.
As for the offroad racing, Austin shared "I'm still hoping that we get to race in the offroad series as they are going to be a lot of fun next year. Ricky Johnson, 7 time Supercross Champion who coached and spotted for me at the CORR races has a 3 race series for 2009 and I would like to run all three of them in either my Trophy Kart Elite or in a Single Buggy. The three races will be at Perris Auto Speedway, Manzanita Speedway and Las Vegas Motor Speedway. There will also be TV so we hope that will be of interest to our sponsors who want to get the TV time for their companies."
Dependent upon sponsorship, Austin would also like to also race in the Dirt Alliance series again in 2009 where he finished 3rd in points in his Trophy Kart last year. Dirt Alliance has been an 8-9 race series that showcases at Perris Auto Speedway which gets converted into an offroad course and uses turns 1 and 2 on the oval.
Austin will be driving the familiar black # 2 that his dad Dave Reed and driver Craig Raudman won many races in the NASCAR Southwest Series, Austin's Legend Car will be sponsored by Approved Memory, Ringers Gloves, RBP, Approved Promo
Austin Reed, 15 years old, is in 9th grade attending Frontier High School in Bakersfield, CA. Austin is the son of Dave Reed, former NASCAR championship car owner in the Southwest Series. For more information please check out Austin's web site www.austinreedracing.com.
