2009 SSP Schedule Release

Newberrytown, PA January 7, 2009: The 2009 season opener of Stock Car Saturday Night will be on Saturday, April 11, with the Late Models, Street Stocks, Xtreme Stock Cars and ARDC Midgets. There will also be a special visit from the Easter Bunny for the kids in attendance. All point championships for every class start on April 11. At the end of the season, SSP will crown eleven-(11) track champions in their respective classes (Late Models; Street Stocks, Xtreme Stock Cars, Legends Cars - 3 classes, PENNMAR Vintage Cars - 2 classes, Classic Cars, Mini Vans and Road Warriors).

The SSP track championship point season schedule features 22 point races for the Late Models, Street Stocks and Xtreme Stock Cars, not including their respective season ending special events. The Legends Cars have 14 point races and 2 season ending specials. The ARDC Midgets and SpeedSTR's by Tobias and 600cc Micro Sprints will each have two events at SSP in 2009. The popular entry level Mini Van and Road Warrior divisions will compete 13 and 12 times each respectively. Also making appearances at SSP in 2009 will be the 358 Sprint Cars (Sunday, June 14), the PA Sprint Series (Saturday, September 12), 358 Modifieds (Sunday, June 14), Byers Tires Thunderscars (Saturday, Ocotber 31), Four Cylinder Stock Cars (2 appearances), Women on Wheels Mini Vans (2 appearances), Classic Cars (3 appearances) and PENNMAR Vintage Cars (6 appearances).

The schedule for the special Young Guns (drivers 21 years of age and younger) dash races presented by Clean Technologies will be released when the details are available.

On Saturday, April 11, the pit gates will open 3:00 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 4:00 p.m. Warm-ups begin at 5:30 p.m. with qualifying races at 6:00 p.m. followed by consolation races and feature events.

SSP will begin its pre-season with two open practice sessions for any type of racecar on Saturday, March 28 and Saturday, April 4. The gates will open at 3:30 p.m. with practice sessions rotating for each class from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. During the season, SSP will also host Wednesday Night Test & Tune Sessions on April 8; April 22; May 6; May 20; June 3; June 17; July 1; July 22; August 5; August 19; September 2; September 16; September 30 and October 14. All Wednesday night practices will run from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Other special events during the 2009 season include the 55th Anniversary race and Old-timer's Reunion on May 23; the 358 Sprint Car Summer Championship on Father's Day along with a return of he 358 Modifieds on June 14; the Super Show IV including the 600cc Micro Sprint Speedweeks on July 2; the 4th Annual Summer Fun Championships on July 4; the 9th Annual York County Nationals on September 5; the 4th Annual Cumberland Trucking Susquehanna Showdown on October 2 & 3; the 6th Annual Miller's Racing Parts Fall Classic on October 23 & 24; the J&K Salvage Candy Bowl V on October 31 and the 6th Annual Turkey 200 Big & Small Car Enduros on November 7.

There will be many children's activities throughout the season which already include Kid's Box Car racing on June 27; Christmas in July on July 25; Members 1st Federal Credit Union Money Scramble on August 1; 3rd Annual Picnic in the Pits (Toy/Bicycle Giveaway) on August 8 and the popular Camera & Autograph Night on August 15.

The first of four AMA Flat Track Motorcycle races at SSP in 2009 will be on Sunday afternoon, March 29. Other motorcycle races will be held on Sunday, May 31; Sunday, July 19 and Sunday, August 16. General admission for the motorcycle events will be just $5.00.

For the upcoming season, the Susquehanna Speedway Park will also implement a new program called "Hometown Heroes." On selected nights throughout the 2009 season, the Hometown Heroes Program will recognize drivers from particular cities and towns throughout Pennsylvania and Maryland. Before the races begin, the drivers will have the opportunity to display their cars and meet the fans at the front gate of the speedway. The drivers will also be interviewed during the night's racing program. Also, all fans entering the speedway from that driver's hometown being honored will be admitted FREE to the grandstands by showing proper photo identification at the ticket booth.

The towns to be included in the program so far are York, Lancaster, Lebanon, Etters, Lewisberry, New Cumberland, Manchester, Mount Wolf, York Haven, Halifax, Jonestown, Duncannon, Enola, Marysville, Dover, East Berlin, Annville, Ephrata, Spring Grove, Thomasville, West York, Felton, Windsor, Carlisle, Newville, Reinholds, Middletown, Mt. Penn, Myerstown, Ona, Shermansdale as well as selected places in Maryland. More details with dates and additional towns will be released in the near future.

After a successful year in 2008, SSP is ready to kick off a full season of racing at the SSP Outback Track on Friday night, April 17. There will be two open practice sessions on Saturday afternoon, April 4 and Wednesday night, April 8.
