Delphi Hungary Employees Build Playground
BALASSAGYARMAT, Hungary – December 23, 2008: Delphi employees donated their time to build a playground in the central kindergarten of Balassagyarmat, Hungary. The official opening celebration was held with participation from Lajos Medvácz, Balassagyarmat's mayor, and Cedric Bouchard, managing director of Delphi Thermal Hungary Ltd.
Many of the playgrounds around Hungary are being reconstructed due to European Union regulations. These projects require significant investment from local governments, schools and kindergartens. As a result, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs have become essential in supporting local community activities.
Delphi's idea was to tie employee resources to a real-life project bringing direct benefits to the neighboring society. This year, 24 Delphi Balassagyarmat employees participated in a three-day corporate team-building training. The first two days were used to learn ways of effective team cooperation and the third day was used to apply the knowledge while building the playground.
Cedric Bouchard stated "As a father, I understand it is very important to know that you leave your children in the kindergarten every morning with a smile on their faces, because they like to be there."
The children prepared thank-you gifts for the Delphi employees and performed a special dance. They continue to enjoy their new playground.
