2009 Porsche 911 collects Automobile Magazine All-Star; Boxster and Cayman "Recommended" choices of Consumer Guide

ATLANTA, Dec. 18, 2008; In the span of just a few weeks, the new 2009 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S has been named an Automobile Magazine All-Star, and the Boxster and Cayman has earned the recommendation of the auto editors at Consumer Guide.
Each year, the worldwide staff of editors, bureau chiefs and freelancers of Automobile convene to drive and compare the raw performance and pure enthusiast appeal of the various makes and models, to see which one of the contestants is "best in class" in any one of ten different categories. The 911 is the latest in a long line of Porsche sports cars to win this coveted and prestigious award.
With comments from Automobile Magazine such as "this is the best car in the group" and "the 911 has a sense of theater at any speed and remains the world's best sports car," there is no doubt that the newest generation of 911 has taken this iconic model to another level of sophistication. This evolution is partly the result of the 911's revolutionary Porsche-Doppelkupplung (PDK) transmission and all-new Direct Fuel Injection engines that provide increased power and yet better fuel economy.
"Every year, we are confronted with new and better competition," said Detlev von Platen, President and CEO of Porsche Cars North America. "Fortunately, Porsche welcomes competition; this is what pushes us to improve our cars and make them even more exhilarating for our customers."
The Automobile Magazine All-Star winners for 2009 will appear in the publication's February issue.
As for the remaining sports car models in Porsche's stable, the auto editors at Consumer Guide magazine have given the 2008 Boxster and Cayman a thumbs up, recommending both models for shoppers seeking great driving sports cars that deliver solid value and versatility.
Editors put the Boxster and Cayman on the magazine's "Recommended" list after an 11-point evaluation process that determines the best cars in vehicle segments based on an "every-day driver perspective."
"We believe that our mid-engine sports cars are not only great driving cars, but they deliver this driving pleasure in a car that is also practical on a daily basis," said von Platen. "We are gratified to know that Consumer Guide has recognized the value these models represent in the segments they compete in."
While the editors at Consumer Guide conceded there are "less expensive sports cars" than the Boxster and Cayman, they concluded in their review that "few, however, match this 2008 Recommended pick's range of strengths: road manners and mechanical sophistication to satisfy the most discriminating driver, a good dose of everyday usability, and the cachet of the Porsche name."
Consumer Guide Automotive has been evaluating cars for more than 40 years, providing an unbiased review process that includes real-world driving evaluations by multiple editors. Each year their "Best Buy" and "Recommended" picks focus on overall vehicle value and take into account performance, economy, reliability, ease of use, comfort, and price. Only the top cars are selected for the awards.
Consumer Guide will publish the results in its February issue.
