COLCHESTER, United Kingdom – December 16, 2008: Manheim Auctions, Colchester’s four lane facility has just celebrated its first anniversary. The huge auction centre is also Europe’s largest, with more than 120,000 cars, vans and trucks of all types going under the hammer in the past 12 months alone. One of the highlights of the year was a new auction price record set in May during a Prestige Auction when a McLaren Mercedes was sold for £187,000.
To celebrate the first birthday of the four lane facility, a two day special auction was held involving 800 cars and 500 vans. Various activities took place over the two days including a charity event which raised £1,000 for the Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital.
Commenting on the special two day auction Chris Cush, General Manager of Manheim Auctions, Colchester said: “The celebration of our first year with the new 4 lane facility has been a great success. As you would expect from Europe’s largest auction centre, it has been a very busy year for everyone here at Colchester and I’d like to personally thank my colleagues, our vendors and our buyers for making it such a successful one. I am especially pleased that thanks to the generosity of our customers and staff over the two day celebration we were able to raise so much money for such a worthwhile charity.”
