INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. December 15, 2008: Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates (CGRFS) announced today that its longtime partner, TELMEX will return to the No. 01 Lexus Riley in 2009 with Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas to defend their 2008 Rolex Grand-Am Series title.
Since TELMEX Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates’ introduction into the Grand-Am Series in 2004 they have dominated the field winning three-consecutive Rolex 24 At Daytona’s, three championships and 21 races during that five-year span.
“We have won three championships and a lot of races with TELMEX as our partners and we couldn’t be happier,” said Team Owner Chip Ganassi. “We have certainly enjoyed the relationship we have had with TELMEX over the years and are looking forward to sharing many more successes with them.”
With six wins in 2008, including an unprecedented third-straight Rolex 24 At Daytona victory, the TELMEX team added to CGRFS’ mantle of Rolex Series successes. In 2004, Pruett and Max Papis clinched the driver and team championship with four wins, and Pruett and Luis Diaz won the team championship in 2006 with five wins.
“The partnership that we have had with Chip, Felix and their whole organization over the last five years has been nothing short of spectacular,” said TELMEX Chairman Carlos Slim. “In just five years, we have won three championships and three Rolex 24 At Daytonas. That is hard to top.”
In addition, Pruett became the first two-time Series Driver Champion and Rojas became the first Mexican driver to win a major racing championship in the United States.
