Washington DC December 10, 2008; The AIADA newsletter reported that as 2009 staggers to a close and Americans brace themselves for more bad economic news, we should keep in mind that good cars are still being built and sold every day.

There are good deals out there in this recession; cars that are worth the price and will hold their value.

Recently, BusinessWeek took a nuanced look at the cars for sale in the U.S. today that appear to be recession-proof. The gold standards they look at were brand equity, reliability, and resale value.

One of their first picks is the Honda Fit. The Fit should remain popular for some time because its cabin is flexible enough to move a lot of stuff, the gas mileage is terrific (27/33), the driver has great visibility, the ride is fun, and the trim grade is high—all attributes that are too rare in the subcompact sector.

Also making the list is the Lexus LS460. The large LS drives like it was engineered for the triple-digit speeds of European motorways and cockpit is all about knock-your-socks-off luxury. It's just a perfectly reliable super-sedan.
