TOPEKA, Kan. December 2, 2008: Week four of SCCA National Championship Runoffs TV programming on SPEED shines the spotlight on Spec Miata and Formula Continental, Wednesday, Dec. 3.
Spec Miata kicks things off at noon (EST). Eric Foss, the 2008 SCCA Playboy Mazda MX-5 Cup Champion, leads the field to the green flag in his No. 28 Team Saferacer Mazda Miata, but doesn’t stay there for long, as the No. 77 Miata Specialists/E-Bargain/Jesus Mazda Miata of Sammy Valafar makes a successful attempt for the lead. Foss keeps his nose glued to Valafar’s bumper and takes back the spot only a handful of laps later. When Valafar is forced to defend his spot from the No. 44 GorillaRacing/Driven Performance Mazda Miata of Steven Gorriaran, Foss gets some breathing room. Once around Valafar, Gorriaran sets his sights on Foss. Does he have enough time to catch the MX-5 Cup ace? Tune into SPEED to find out.
Next, at 1 p.m. (EST), Formula Continental takes to the track, with polesitter Niki Coello eyeing not only his third FC Championship, but third Chicago Region Triple CrownŽ as well. His Championship and Triple Crown hopes come under immediate threat as defending FC Champion Chas Shaffer taps the back of Coello’s No. 81 pouredfoundations.com Van Diemen RF-01 on the start, breaking the Coello’s rear diffuser. Coello is able to maintain the lead, but now has an important aerodynamic element merely dragging behind his Van Diemen. Could this be exactly what a hard charging Brian Tomasi in the No. 96 Alligator Board/Hoosier/Subway /RMX Van Diemen RF-01 needs to stop Coello’s Championship run? Discover the answer for yourself on SPEED this week.
