GM DAEWOO, Make Kimchi and Share Love!

BUPEYONG, South Korea – November 26, 2008: GM DAEWOO Employee Foundation held a Kimchi-making event for neglected neighbors at the Exhibition Hall of Bupyeong Headquarter on the 22nd.

The Kimchi-making event was held with about 250 participants including Michael A. Grimaldi, President of GM DAEWOO, as well as foreigner directors and employees, Employee Wives’PR Club, GM DAEWOO Volunteers, and 8 tons of sincerely made Kimchi was presented to 250 low income households as well as 29 social welfare institutions in the Gyeonggi Area.

The event is held not only in Bupyeong, but also in respective GM DAEWOO local operations in Gunsan, Boryeong, Changwon, etc., which is expected to respectively convey total of about 5 tons of Kimchi to adjacent social welfare institutions. The Kimchi-making event has been held continually every year since the launch of GM DAEWOO in 2002.

In particular, President Michael Grimaldi and foreigner directors and employees’ families participated, which made the event meaningful occasion for experiencing and understanding Korea’s traditional culinary culture through a volunteering activity.

President Grimaldi who has expressed deep affection for Korean culture by partaking in the Kimchi-making event last year and this year said that, “I hope the Kimchi-making event can be of little help to our neighbors who are in difficulty, and will continue to make efforts to give great encouragement to the neglected around us”

Hye- Jeong Park, Team Leader of Yerimwon of Son & Son, a social welfare organization who received Kimchi donation on this day expressed appreciation and said, “We couldn’t dare think of making kimchi this year due to high prices, but there is no need to worry about kimchi thanks to such help we got.

GM DEWOO established ‘GM DAEWOO Employee Foundation’ in July 2005, and is conducting social public good programs such as supporting the neglected class, social public good activities, volunteer recruiting/networking & sponsorship programs, etc..

In addition, the Foundation is stepping forward to held neighbors in need by conducting various social contribution activities such as holding yearly One-day Santa Event for warm wintering of the neglected class, supporting briquette to low-income and elderly living in solitude, and year end musical concert by opera company together with child care center children, etc..
