KARIYA, JAPAN – November 11, 2008: DENSO Corporation today announced that it will consolidate its manufacturing operations of starters and alternators in Europe to DENSO Manufacturing Italia S.p.A. (DMIT) located in San Salvo, Italy. Currently, these products are manufactured at DMIT and DENSO Manufacturing Midlands Ltd. (DMML) located in West Midlands, United Kingdom. Following the transfer of manufacturing operations from DMML to DMIT, it is planned that DMML will be closed.
“We have decided on the consolidation to strengthen the competitiveness of our starter and alternator business in Europe under these severe economic conditions,” said Mitsuharu Kato, senior managing director in charge of the Electric Systems Business Group, DENSO Corporation. “However, we deeply regret that this action will impact employees at DMML.”
DMML, 100-percent owned by DENSO Corporation, produces starters and alternators and employs 80 people.
DMIT, 100-percent owned by DENSO Corporation, produces starters, alternators and small motors, and employs approximately 1,100 people.
