ROLLE, SWITZERLAND - October 20, 2008: Today, Nissan in Europe announced its decision to further adjust its European manufacturing operations in order to manage volume, reduce existing inventory and prevent over supply to a weakening market.

Nissan plants in both Sunderland and Barcelona will be affected by this short-term plan. To ensure Nissan’s current stock volume is managed prudently, two measures will be introduced:

  • Implementing the existing Volume Flexibility Agreements and
  • Having a number of non-production days between October and December.

The projected production suspension for each of the plants is as follows:

    Sunderland
This will be managed by adjusting the Micra and Note production between late October and November:

  • two weeks non-production
  • three weeks with short-time working

    Barcelona
This will be managed by adjusting two production lines for Pathfinder, Navara 4x4s and Primastar van, which is also sold as the Renault Trafic and GM Vivaro between late October and December:

  • One week non-production
  • Eight weeks with short-time working
  • There will be no further impact on headcount as a result of these temporary measures for Barcelona

Employees at both locations will be involved in a number of specific job and training related activities during the non-production days.
