Carlos Ghosn Meets With French President Nicolas Sarkozy At Renault's Sandouville Plant
PARIS – October 6, 2008: French President Nicolas Sarkozy talked with Renault management and labor representatives during a visit to the Sandouville plant on Monday October 6. He assured Carlos Ghosn, President and CEO of Renault, and all the employees at the Sandouville plant that the government would take all the necessary measures to maintain the competitiveness of the site amid the tough conditions in today’s European automotive market.
The reform of France’s professional tax will enable the Sandouville plant to produce a light commercial vehicle in the best conditions in 2012, rounding out the production of existing models. Additional measures may be taken, including professional transition contracts and training modules during part-time unemployment. Meetings will be held to this effect with the government this week.
Carlos Ghosn reiterated his commitment to the long-term sustainability of the French sites and of Sandouville in particular. He also reasserted his ambition to successfully adapt activity through a voluntary departure plan, to cope with the fall in activity at the plant resulting from a worsening in the economic environment
Speaking with labor representatives at the site, Carlos Ghosn said, “The excellent work quality achieved at Sandouville has enabled New Laguna to rate among the very best on quality. This justifies the decision to produce a light commercial vehicle here starting in 2012”.
