Renault Worldwide Sales Results, August 2008

PARIS – September 17, 2008: In August 2008, the Renault group sold 153,887 vehicles (PC+LCVs) worldwide under its three brands, Renault, Dacia and Renault Samsung Motors, down 5.8% compared with August 2007 (unadjusted figures, with two fewer days than in 2007). Renault reported an 8.5% drop in worldwide sales, while Dacia posted a 15.9% rise and Renault Samsung Motors sales a fall of 5.5%.

In Europe1, the market contracted sharply in August (-15.9%), but Renault group sales held up well at 83,593 units (-8.4%). Market share increased by 0.7 points to 9%. The Renault brand consolidated its second place position for PC and LCVs in the European rankings. In Germany, the market contracted (-10.5%), but Renault sales returned to growth (+7.3%). Renault also posted strong sales increases in the Netherlands (+35%), Belgium (+21.3%), Austria (+12.9%) and Portugal (+15.9%). In Spain and Italy, the lackluster markets showed no improvement, down 43.3% and 25.9% respectively, and Renault sales reflected market levels.

New Twingo sold 6,709 units. New Laguna recorded sales nearly 4,000 units, while Laguna Estate has totaled more than 30,700 sales since launch. Sales of Clio Estate (4,266), Kangoo car (2,623), Modus and Grand Modus (4,243) remained buoyant. Koleos, the latest vehicle to be launched, sold 2,026 units in August.

In Europe in August, Dacia sales rose 18.1%. The Dacia range now comprises three models, with Sandero arriving alongside Logan sedan and Logan MCV. In the Americas region, in a contracting market (-4.7%), Renault group sales fell by 9.7%. In Brazil, despite a slowing market (+2.7%), Renault sales rose (+37%), gaining more than one point of market share. Logan and Sandero consolidated their success in this region, with both models having sold more than 58,700 units in Brazil and Argentina since January 2008. In the Euromed region, in a contracting market (-0.1%), Renault group sales fell (-0.6%) in August. In Romania, in a contracting market (-8.1%), the Group maintained very high market share (30.8%) despite declining sales (-7.8%).

Sales in Morocco and Algeria, up 32.9% and 16.8% respectively, grew strongly both in terms of volume and market share (+1.3 points in Morocco and +4.9 points in Algeria). In Asia-Africa, the Group posted sales growth of 7.3% in August, outperforming the market (+4.3%). In Korea, the market contracted sharply (-16.5%), and sales for RSM fell by 6.5%, while the brand gained one point of market share. More than 3,800 Logan units were delivered in Iran.
